The future of mobile location-based services lies in its rapid adoption of indoor technologies.
Pole Star, the pioneer and world leader in indoor location technologies, is redefining the future of the indoor location market with the launch of its new indoor location platform, NAO Cloud.
I think most of us know from experience that trying to find your way around a large indoor location such as a convention center or an unfamiliar mall can be very challenging. You can wander around in unfamiliar mall looking for a specific store or finally break down and ask some complete stranger where the store you need is located. Another option is a new application for Android devices called Pole Star.
Thanks to free access to GPS and the huge growth of the worldwide smartphone market, satellite navigation now is natively integrated in smartphones, regardless of operating system (iOS, Android, Windows 8, etc.). Today, no one would purchase a brand-new mobile device without outdoor positioning services.
According to ABI Research, the indoor location technology for retailers will be at $5 billion by 2018. The quick adoption of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices with wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is pushing this market. Retailers around the world are implementing indoor location applications for these devices in order to drive more sales by engaging their customers.
